connery, lazenby, moore, dalton, brosnan and craig

alright 2 movies spanning the holidays.....Guess I am getting back to the usual self of watching movies in the cinema than DVDs......

Casino Royale
A very anticipated movie - 1) being a James Bond movie and 2) being Daniel Craig's first attempt as Bond.......I am never a fan of James Bond...probably because I think he has it good.....slick cars, sexy women, a far fetched job ..pretty unrealistic....but when is a movie really realistic....

Anyway...I enjoyed Casino Royale....It is a truly popcorn entertaining movie and Craig I must say is pretty good considering people's qualms on him being Bond - too short, too blonde, too ugly......He is not as pretty as the previous Bonds but he is a bad ass and that alone makes it hard to compare with the others.......

Lovely sceneries, Eva Green and just for pure entertainment...Casino Royale is there..... I give it 3 stars

PS: I just loved the first chase scene.....I almost crap in my pants......

The Holiday

One look at the poster you know what you are in for.....Big time CHICK FLICK......and it prolly ends up with a "and they live happily ever after" ending...

Got roped in by Derek to watch this with QP and Cheryl past midnight....not that I am complaining about it....It is pretty alright but I am not for this type of genre...

#1 Independent movies #2 Drama movies #3 Mystery/Suspense movies #4 Horror movies #5 Crime movies #6 Action movies #7 Comedy movies #8 CHICK FLICKS/Romantic Comedies

Note: If movies at #8 has the names Jennifer Love Hewitt, Scarlett Johansson, Gwyneth Paltrow or Nicole Kidman, I might bring it up to #4....

Synopsis - Amanda(Diaz) and Iris(Winslet) lives in California and Surrey respectively and they both fell out of love and decided to exchange house online (Do people even do that in real life). So they reached their respective houses and both fell in love within 2 weeks.....wow! Talk about fast....

Throughout the movie, I yawned intermittently.....maybe because of the movie or just because it was a midnight movie..And then end I found out that the whole movie was more than 2hrs.. For a romantic comedy...come on.....it was obvious that the director was expounding on Cameron Diaz and Jude Law. Their scenes were far boring....Everytime I would say to myself...Give me Winslet and Black.......... Cameron Diaz is so so so annoying!!!!!! She seems to be able to only act ditzy and pretty.....you can see that she is aging and that would not be an appropriate time to act ditzy and cute....And as much as Jude Law is charming as hell and I would say that myself....his movie roles seem to only focus on the way he combs his hair......

Ok thats enough bad points for a movie....The only THE only saving grace was Kate Winslet...She was able to portray Iris so well...and it was almost like real....I felt like I was watching Iris and her acting is so endearing and real......and it became really obvious when they switched from Winslet to Diaz.....cos the disparity in their actings is huge....

And it is so sad that Diaz is paid 20 million for a flick while Winslet is not(not even close I think)......well I guess this is Hollywood....with all being said I give this movie 2 stars (Winslet owns the 2).

shut your f**king mouth, you f**k, you motherf**king bitch

yup....the second movie I watched was Running Scared.....yet again...a very underrated movie and of course it should be because one would be turned off when you see Paul Walker on the poster....true I given a lot of flak for this guy cos he really really really could not act to save his life...Fast and The Furious, 2 Fast and 2 Furious, Into The Blue etc.....I kinda cringe whenever he appears on screen...
The only reason I watched it was because like Match Point it had pretty decent reviews....and it turn out to be a really good movie..
Joey is a low mob junkie whose job basically entails discarding the weapons the mobs used after every deal and problem is he doesn't discard them, he hides them in the basement of his house and one day his son and friend got wind of it and stole one and use it and shoot his stepfather and this leads to a crazy chase for the gun and the boy.....Yup unlike match point, this is a typical Hollywood movie. Gore, violence, sex, nudity(both girls and Walker), profanities.....and I did a google and amazingly the word F**k was said 328 times on its own and its derivatives of course...
Walker was actually good in this film...some said that it was his best acting performance and I agree....but he did overacted a little but it is always better to see overacting than stiff acting......
Do watch this film...cos its really good but if you do not have a high tolerance for the profanities, you might want to give it a miss cos its really insane....even the 10 year old gets to say f**k for about 10 times?

infidelity never looks so cool

I stayed at home yesterday and went to my holiday state of being a couch potato....caught 2 movies on DVD that I had always wanted to watch and it was both great! And I had to do a review for both....

directed by Woody Allen
stars: Jonathan Rhys-Meyers & Scarlett Johansson

This is one movie I didn't catch it in the theatres and I wanted to cos it had really great reviews and some Oscar nods....and the movie has really great quotes.....Its not your typical Hollywood movie.....very indie type of movie...A very wordy and dialogue based movie.....mind provoking movie....which I always love cos I believe in watching movies to be challenged not always to be entertained.

The movie started of with Chris, an Irish lad who is a used to be tennis pro but couldn't really cut it. Therefore he opted to migrate to London to work as a tennis instructor and he got to know Tom who is a upper class British guy and to cut the long story short.....Chris was kinda match made with Chloe, Tom's sister....And throughout this whole get together....Chris was infatuated with Nola....Tom's fiancee.....and the movie started to pick up from there....

Chris had to make a decision between Chloe and Nola....Chloe would give him wealth, status, a high paid job while Nola would just satisfy his lust.......and the ending proved to be something so non Hollywood...and that alone is worth a watch

On to Scarlett Johansson, I still cannot admit the fact that she is like what 22 years old...this lady is so hot.....ouch....
and I finally could understand the phenomenon on why girls checked out other girls and yet not claim any lesbian tendencies.....Jonathan Rhys-Meyers is the guy I would claim every guy wants to be...he is not exactly Hollywood looking material but he just exudes the coolness that I have not seen in most actors...And not to say that this guy could really act....you can see that Chris was so angsty in the film and the lust he had for Nola despite married was spine chilling. you could just basically feel for his character as he decides what to do in the end

The real morale of the story is quoted from the first statement made in the film by Chris - The man who said "I'd rather be lucky than good" saw deeply into life. People are afraid to face how great a part of life is dependent on luck. It's scary to think so much is out of one's control. There are moments in a match when the ball hits the top of the net, and for a split second, it can either go forward or fall back. With a litte luck, it goes forward, and you win. Or maybe it doesn't, and you lose.

The movie's main theme is about luck and the infidelity nonsense is just subplot to the greater scheme of plot so well written by Woody Allen.
Overall this film was awesome...I would give it 5 stars for the sake of the deadly combo of Scarlet Jo and JR Meyers..but besides that it was an awesome and mind provoking movie that was truly underrated......
